NFL Hired First Black Woman to Officiate Games
Maia Chaka will make history when the new National Football League season starts this year.
Chaka is the first Black woman to be hired as an NFL official, but this isn’t her first major role as an officiator. Chaka has found herself working with the NCAA, as well as the AAF in the past.
Her selection by the NFL comes six years after the league made Sarah Thomas its first permanent female game official.
What Maia Chaka said:
“I am honored to be selected as an NFL official. But this moment is bigger than a personal accomplishment. It is an accomplishment for all women, my community, and my culture.”
Happy to see it, let's keep pushing for greatness.
